LOQI partners with designboom for the boldest, most creative bag design contest
In partnership with designboom, LOQI announces the highly anticipated international contest. The bag brand is on the hunt for artists from around the world that can bring a wide range of the most original bag designs possible. From the mountains of Romania to the streets of Tokyo, London and Berlin, LOQI will do just about anything to find their artists – and 2023 is your year.
LOQI is committed to being high-quality, eco-friendly and affordable, with bags that appeal to people from the most different ends of the spectrum. While certified and made from 100% recycled GreenCircle material, the products do not fail in bringing out a colorful, bold and unconventional aesthetic. Found in over 50 countries and 300+ museums, from the MoMA to the TATE, the bags really are everywhere. Evident from the brand’s name as well, which comes from Loci, Latin for location, and Qi, Chinese for air and life energy, the company merges East and West. As the employees bring different cultures and languages together, so do the products, designed by artists from all over the world.
In 2023, the brand collaborates with designboom and out comes the highly anticipated, LOQI x designboom Design Challenge. The brief is simple: let the imagination roam free. Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium awards for a total of €4.000, a two-night stay in the LOQI Tower as well as global recognition are on the line for the winners. The lucky first-place winner though also has the exclusive opportunity to collaborate with the company and have their design produced as a part of the brand’s collection, which gets internationally distributed in esteemed museums and concept stores. As the brand is renowned for being an impulse buy, a spontaneous positive reaction to the illustration is the key to capturing the fan’s hearts. Although the participant can select an existing artwork from their portfolio, LOQI encourages exclusivity. To ease the artists into the world of bag design, a variety of templates are provided for free, here. The download includes several folders for the different product options: bumbag; backapck; zip-pocket; weekender; and laptop sleeve. In each one, guidelines, specifications, and instructions are explained in simple illustrations including front and back views as well as the zip and strap colors. The corresponding InDesign files are also available for the actual design process.
