giant holographic dinosaurs take over paris streets for julien nonnons prehistoric safari

designboom-giant holographic images of prehistoric dinosaurs have occupied the streets of paris as part of french artist julien nonnon’s latest digital art playground. titled ‘prehistoric safari’, the installation transforms the ‘jardin d’acclimatation’ park using video-mapping technology to create an experience of ‘space-time travel’ full of surprises in the jurassic era.

nonnon was inspired by adventure books by sir arthur conan doyle, jules verne and michael crichton, as well as steven spielberg’s movies. using them as a reference, he plays with the codes of prehistoric monsters representation in popular culture, brought to life through immersive set design.

combining photography, video, architecture and scenography, nonnon has produced 17 3D-projections of species that occupied the cretaceous period and displayed them in the jardin d’acclimatation, a long-established parisian amusement park. it opens its doors from 18h to 22h, and offers the public to discover more than a dozen holographic projections animated life-size dinosaurs.

visitors will also be invited to attend to an original show by igor vanzane, dinosaur’s tamer, followed by the premiere of a french-style mini blockbuster ‘dino escape’, that shows the streets of paris invaded by many dinosaurs.
they will also live a 360° experience, entirely created by the artist himself, where they must fulfil the mission of bringing back an egg of tyrannosaurus rex to our current time.
